Killin and the Falls of Dochart
Spectacular in spate, the Falls of Dochart in Killin attract plenty of visitors

Wild water at the Falls of Dochart
The Falls of Dochart are one of the best-known ‘water features’ of Scotland. In the village of Killin, the River Dochart tumbles through the arched bridge that still carries traffic to and from Loch Tay and beyond. (I wonder if, strictly speaking, they should be called the Cataract of Killin? Naw.)
From time to time, swollen by snow-melt or just another Scottish monsoon, the River Dochart rises and spills wild water over the rocky ledges above the bridge - a classic Highland spate. It’s a great show for the visitors! But watch - in fact, caa canny - with the traffic on the bridge when you visit.
Anyway, it's higher than usual water that we have here. I think gouache is just the job the make the late-season colours of trees and mountains good and solid. I’ve applied it with brushes and an old toothbrush. I’ve got the original (offers, anyone?) in a gold-coloured frame and it looks just fine, bringing out the reddish tints of an autumn visit to this charming Highland spot. You might want to treat your print in the same way…only a suggestion, mind…
